Afterward, you will have free time to rest, take photographs, and explore on your own. Machu Picchu, an ancient treasure, was strategically built in a remote and inaccessible location in the Tampu valley on the lands of Pachacutec's panaca (the founder of Tawantinsuyo). This marvel was the jewel of the empire, designed to be the refuge and home of the aristocratic elite in case of a surprise attack. The roads leading to Picchu were restricted to the general population as its location was a military secret. The deep ravines and rugged mountains provided unparalleled natural protection. Afterward, we will board the bus back from Machu Picchu to the town of Aguas Calientes. These buses depart every 10 minutes, and the trip lasts approximately 30 minutes. Once in Aguas Calientes, you can enjoy lunch and have the afternoon free to relax in the hot springs or stroll around the town.
