Itinerary
Location: Cusco-Chinchero-Ukutuan Community Piuray Lagoon
To begin our adventure, we will pick you up from the hotel in the morning at 9:30 am, and then head towards the town of Chinchero in our vehicle. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes. We will take a detour towards the Ukutuan community where our friends from the area await us.
Ukutuan is a rural community located on the shores of Piuray Lagoon, which has been developing integrated community rural tourism involving 20 families, including men and women who are expert weavers.
Upon our arrival at the community, Francisco will welcome us, and then we will start our reception with native music and dance by the community members, who will invite us to enter the communal house for the presentation of each member. The guide will proceed to explain the activities to be carried out in the community. We will engage in activities such as:
• Feeding the livestock; those who wish may wear typical local attire.
• Traditional stories of the Community, such as the history of the Lagoon, protective Apus.
• Tasting of traditional Chicha.
• Hair braiding.
• Potato digging or harvesting beans; we will carry out daily activities in the field, as well as a typical Huatia along with the passengers, demonstrating our local cuisine.
• Demonstration of typical tools.
We will perform a small offering ceremony to Pachamama (Mother Earth) on the shores of the lagoon, all of this in the Quechua language (native language); our guide will act as our translator to connect the community with our passengers.
We will have a buffet lunch prepared by the women of the community.
As a final activity, we will have a textile demonstration by the expert female weavers who still preserve the tradition of using natural dyes, as well as weaving blankets and garments with vivid colors and shapes representing their culture, experiences, and protective Apus.
Passengers are also invited to purchase the products they make to support their economy, all based on textiles.
Concluding all activities around 3 pm approximately, we return to the city of Cusco to the hotel.
