Located 33 kilometers away from Cuzco. Its archaeological site is one of the most important in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Písac is divided in two zones, the old one, located in the high part, is an archaeological site Inca, and the present one, located in the valley, that dates from the colonial time. Its main square is an entertaining place full of colorful. This town is known for its astronomical observatory. Some scholars suggest that the pre-Hispanic city took the form of a partridge that represented the local fauna. The Inca City currently offers a Local Market, full of local handicrafts and products.

It is the only incanate city in Peru that is still inhabited. Today it is an important tourist attraction due to its Inca constructions and for being one of the most common starting points of the Inca road to Machu Picchu. Ollantaytambo is a typical example of the extraordinary urban planning of the Incas, and therefore a must visit point for anyone interested in this civilization. The architectural style used, as well as the quality of each stone, individually worked, make of Ollantaytambo one of the most peculiar and surprising works of art made by the ancient Peruvians, especially the Temple of the Sun and its gigantic monoliths. The straight, narrow and picturesque streets today form fifteen blocks of houses located to the north of the main square of the city, that in itself constitute a true historical legacy. Some houses of colonial type are built on beautiful Inca walls finely polished. The tones of the stone are cheerful, of a petrified flower color, dark pink. In the main square a large block of perfect edges fits in a double row its fifteen angles of terrestrial star.

Here is what in the Inca times was the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui, as well as a colonial temple built on bases of this civilization, especially the typical doors or windows wider and narrower upwards, which was a characteristic of the Inca architecture. The market of Sundays, which in its origin was dominated by the barter of products among the inhabitants of the zone, at present, is a tourist attraction by the offer of its crafts and Inca textile fabricated in the pre-Columbian style. The important Inca ruins of the town were excavated and restored by the Spanish Archaeological Mission between 1968 and 1970.
